1. Tutorial Tuesday starts on 13th April. Email has been sent to advertise places:
Anatomy Tutorials:
Anatomy tutorials will form a series of workshops including drawing some anatomy schematics and talking through some anatomical models, all orientated for surgical and clinical relevance. These tutorials will be given by Mr Tim Stansfield, General Surgical Registrar. For your information, the provisional programme for these workshops looks like this:
13 Apr 10 Abdomen (Overview, Aorta plus branches, Liver, retroperitonieum)
20 Apr 10 Groin and Pelvis (Overiew, Pelvic floor, Inguinal canal, femoral canal)
27 Apr 10 Neck and Thorax (Overview, thoracic inlet, chest wall, lymph drainage)
04 May 10 Head and Spine (Overview, Spinal cord, facial skeleton, Cranial nerves)
11 May 10 Upper Limb (Overview, brachial plexus and peripheral nerves, rotator cuff)
18 May 10 Lower Limb (Overview, vessels, osteofascial compartments, popiteal fossa)
An email will be sent out every week to advertise places at the tutorials. There are 8 places available each week. This week’s tutorial on the abdomen starts at 1900hrs prompt, so please arrive at the Sick Kids’ CL&H Centre for 18.45hrs.
FY Tutorials:
In parallel to Mr Stansfield’s anatomy workshops, there will also be tutorials from FYs on various different topics relevant to Finals.
2. Lecture “Lumps, Bumps, Scars and Hernias” by Mr John Terrace. Another revision lecture in the series. Date and venue to be confirmed.
3. Richard McGregor: the Sequel. Lecture on “Post-op complications.” Wednesday 12th May, RHSC Lecture Theatre. Time to be confirmed.
4. Lecture “Shock, Gases and Electrolytes” by Mr Jacques Kerr, Consultant in Emergency Medicine, Borders Hospital. Thursday 27th May, RHSC Lecture Theatre. Time to be confirmed.
5. Tutorial Orthopaedic Examinations. Date, venue and places to be confirmed.
6. Plus more tutorials from FY Doctors. Topics, dates and venues to be confirmed.
In the meantime, we are still looking for submission of reports on surgical Electives, or abstracts on project work to put on the website. If you are interested, templates can be found on the appropriate page (linked to the Resources section).
And please check the Resources and Lectures Sections for advice and notes on various topics.
If you are interested in writing for the website, please email the Society with your ideas. Articles will be placed in the Resources’ section (there are some rough topic suggestions already up, but really any contribution is welcome).
